{mosgoogle}The new Gamer’s Edge 1500’s main improvements are a faster processor (Athlon 64 3700+ vs. Athlon 64 3200+), the optical drive (from a DVD/CD-RW combo drive to a DVD+/-RW Dual Layer drive), and perhaps most significantly, the video card (nVidia GeForce 6800GS 256MB vs. nVidia GeForce 6600GT with 128MB RAM).
However, there was a downgrade from the ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard in the previous configuration to a regular ASUS A8N SLI motherboard – which doesn’t have a second Gigabit Ethernet port or a second set of SATA RAID connections.
We ordered the Gamer’s Edge 1500 as it was pre-configured on Velocity Micro’s site, with a few minor changes. We decided to forgo the “Video Cool Positive Pressure airflow system” – which we found out from our first article was just a slotted pair of adjustable cooling fans directly cooling the graphics card. We saved $35 and took that money to buy an 8-in-1 Floppy Drive/Media Reader combo. Read the full review at HardOCP.
